Frida Kahlo has been painted numerous times and I wanted to depict her in a way that was a little different and perhaps even a little shocking. I have painted Frida several times and each time I try something new. She is still recognisable as Frida in this portrait, but only just. 

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was a Mexican painter known for her self-portraits exploring themes of identity, pain, and the human body, often incorporating elements of Mexican folk art and Surrealism. She was also known for her tumultuous marriage to fellow artist Diego Rivera.
